Install on macOS, Windows or Linux

Two ways in: the desktop app, from the downloads, or one command in Terminal that runs Localoy in your browser. Both give you the same Localoy. For a server with no screen, see Run on a server.

From Terminal (macOS and Linux)

curl -fsSL https://localoy.ai/install.sh | sh

It installs the localoy command to ~/.local/bin (no admin password), starts Localoy in the background so it keeps running after a restart, and opens it in your browser at http://127.0.0.1:2468. Bookmark that address: it keeps you signed in. To open it again later, run localoy open.

macOS

Apple Silicon and Intel builds, one .dmg each. Requires macOS 12 or later.

These builds are not signed. macOS blocks them the first time you open one: “Apple cannot check it for malicious software” is that block, not a broken download. Three steps, once per install:

  1. Drag Localoy to Applications. Opening it from the disk image will keep failing.
  2. Open it, and click Done on the block.
  3. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway.

Or clear the download flag yourself and skip all of it:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/localoy.app

Windows

A one-click installer for x64 or ARM, which installs per user with no admin prompt. Requires Windows 10 or later.

The installer is not signed, so Windows shows a warning the first time. Choose More info, then Run anyway.

Linux

The .AppImage runs anywhere. The .deb is for Debian and Ubuntu. Both come for x64 and ARM. Servers use the headless install.

Updates

From 2.1.14 on, Localoy updates itself. It downloads a new version in the background and checks that it really comes from us. When it is ready you see Localoy 2.1.15 is ready above your name; press Restart and it comes back on the new version a few seconds later. If an agent is working, it waits until the agent finishes. To look for one yourself, click your name, then Check for updates. To turn automatic updates off, go to Settings → General → Updates.

Version 2.1.13 and earlier can’t update themselves, so download 2.1.14 once by hand. After that, you never download Localoy again.

The first time it opens, Localoy asks you to sign in. Press Sign in with your browser, enter your email at app.localoy.ai, and type the code we send you. The app moves on by itself. Your chats, files and agents stay on your computer; signing in only tells Localoy who you are, and it keeps working offline for 30 days at a time. In a browser tab the same button works. On a server, run localoy login and approve the short code it shows at app.localoy.ai/device.
