Features · Computer use

Your apps. Your mouse stays yours.

Localoy works in the apps on your computer from behind your windows. It opens them, presses buttons, fills in fields, uses the menus, saves and exports, while you keep working in front. When a job needs an app in front, it asks to borrow it, and gives it back when it’s done.

A real run, sped up: from a CSV of the week’s orders to a Numbers summary, a Vinci cover and chart, and a five-slide Keynote deck with its PDF, in a few minutes. Numbers and Keynote are shown in the pane; only their own windows were filmed.

It borrows, it doesn’t grab

You keep working. It works behind you.

Buttons, fields, menus and keys go straight to the app the agent is using, so your mouse, your keyboard and the window you’re in stay yours. Some work only happens with an app in front, like typing on a Keynote slide. Then it asks first, uses the app for a few minutes, and hands your window back when it’s done.

Can I borrow Keynote for a few minutes (to type on the slide)? It comes to the front and I use the mouse in it. Type or click any time to take it back.
Lend itNot now

The question from the recording above, word for word.

You’re using Keynote, where I’m working, so I’ve paused. Tell me when to carry on.
Carry onStop here

What it asks when you click or type in the app it’s working in.

You step in, it steps back

Your hand on the app beats the agent.

Using your own apps never stops it. Using the one it’s working in does: it pauses at once and asks, and carries on only when you say so. If it’s drawing with a borrowed mouse and you move yours, it lets go straight away.

What it does

The work you do in your apps, done for you.

Buttons and fields

Presses buttons, fills in fields and types into documents, in apps like Numbers, Keynote, Pages and TextEdit.

Menus

Chooses from an app’s menus by name, like Insert, Format or Slide, without opening them over your work.

Saves and exports

Saves the document into its folder and exports PDFs, with no Save window popping up on your screen.

Puts pictures in

Pastes pictures from its folder, like a Vinci cover, and puts your clipboard back right after.

Safety

It never takes over your screen.

It asks once for each app, and again before anything sensitive: sending, paying, deleting. It never touches password fields, never starts a slideshow, goes full screen or quits your apps, and closes any file window it opens before your files show. It won’t use Localoy itself, System Settings, Keychain Access, Passwords or a terminal.

Permission — look at and use Numbers
AllowDon’t allow

The first time it wants an app. Your answer is remembered for that agent.

How to start

Three steps.

1

Turn on the Computer switch

macOS then asks you to allow Localoy under Accessibility, and the first save asks under Automation. It’s one of the six switches.

2

Ask for the job

“Make the Monday sales review from orders.csv”, “fill this week’s timesheet in Numbers”.

3

Keep working

It works behind your windows. Lend it an app when it asks, or step in any time.

macOS today. Windows is in beta, and on Windows it still works with apps in front. Not on Linux.
